EVANSTON, Ill. – Two Northwestern standouts were recognized by the Big Ten Monday afternoon (Oct. 24) with the conference's player of the week awards. Junior Nick Gendron (Ramsey, N.J./Ramsey) earned Offensive Player of the Week accolades while freshman Tyler Miller (Woodbury, N.J./Bishop Eustace) notched Co-Defensive Player of the Week. Both played key roles in Northwestern's 1-0 win over Wisconsin on Sunday, which moved NU into first place in the Big Ten standings, and extend its unbeaten streak to six matches.

This is Gendron's first career player of the week honor. His goal off a header in the 76th minute proved to be the game-winner and improved Northwestern's Big Ten record to 3-0-1.

Miller receives his second career honor as he he saved three shots against the Badgers to record his eighth shutout of the season. In just his freshman year, Miller is now in sole possession of second place on NU's single-season shutout list and is tied for fifth in NU history with eight shutouts. Miller and the Wildcats have shut out all three of their last opponents and four of their last six.

Gendron is the fifth different Wildcat to be recognized by the league, which is a school record. This also is the first time in school history Northwestern has been honored six times, with the previous record set in 2008 when NU brought home five weekly awards.

Northwestern wraps up the 2011 regular season home schedule this week at Lakeside Field. The Wildcats host Rockford College at 6 p.m. Thursday and take on No. 13 Indiana for a key Big Ten match on Sunday at 2 p.m.
