EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern senior midfielder/forward Matt Eliason (Lombard, Ill./Glenbard East) has been invited to participate in this weekend's Major League Soccer (MLS) Combine in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

The combine is being conducted prior to the MLS SuperDraft which is being held Jan. 13 in Baltimore.

"I am very happy for Matt to be selected to the MLS Combine and I think he will do very well," Northwestern head coach Tim Lenahan said. "I was a little surprised that he was not on the original list given that he is one of the leading scorers in the country over his career and the leading scorer in the Big Ten during that time. It is great that he will get the chance to play with the best players in the country. I think the MLS will see what we have seen for four years and that Matt is a fantastic all-around soccer player."

Eliason completed his Northwestern eligibility in the fall as the program's all-time leader with 33 goals and 82 points. His 16 game-winning goals are also a school record and rank fourth in Big Ten history.

He was a two-time first-team all-Big Ten selection as a forward and a second-team pick as a midfielder.

In all, Eliason is one of 10 Big Ten players invited to the combine and the leading scorer of that particular group. He will compete for the Adipure team coached by Tom McIntosh of the University of Tulsa.
