EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern closes its competitive preparation for the 2011 Big Ten Championships this Friday and Saturday, Jan. 28-29, at the massive five-team dual-meet format Shamrock Invitational hosted by Notre Dame at the Rolfs Aquatic Center.
Host Notre Dame, No. 18 Ohio State, Denver, Iowa and Northwestern comprise the field at the Shamrock. Instead of the invitational-style scoring which was used at NU's six-team TYR Invitational in November, this meet will be scored as individual dual meets between all teams, meaning the Wildcats will add four outcomes to their 6-4 (1-4 Big Ten) record in their final regular-season competition.
The meet will be comprised of three sessions, with the first taking place on Friday and the final two on Saturday. In addition to the women, the festivities also include a three-team men's meet involving Notre Dame, Iowa and Denver. Live results for the entire Shamrock Invitational can be found at .
Northwestern is familiar with many of this weekend's foes, having already defeated Notre Dame, 189.5-110.5, on Senior Day January 15 at the Norris Aquatics Center before besting Iowa, 191.5-104.5, last Saturday, Jan. 22, in Iowa City.
The Wildcats' current senior class are the only 'Cats to have faced both Ohio State and Denver. NU defeated Denver on Dec. 19, 2007 by a score of 127-102 during its winter training trip to Boca Raton, Fla., that year. The Wildcats then closed the 2007-08 dual season with a 167-133 victory over the Buckeyes in Evanston.
Following this meet, Northwestern will completely shift its focus to final preparations for the 2011 Big Ten Championships, which take place Feb. 16-19 in Bloomington, Ind.
