Scouting the Opponents
Seventh-ranked Notre Dame returns nine starters from a squad that reached the NCAA College Cup for the fourth consecutive season in 2009. The Irish suffered their first loss of the season last weekend at the hands of UCLA (whom Northwestern defeated on Aug. 29). UND does have a victory over then-No. 8 Santa Clara on its resume. Rose Augustin leads the Irish with nine goals, and goalkeeper Nikki Weiss has a 0.33 goals-against average entering the weekend. Notre Dame plays at DePaul Friday before heading to Evanston.
Series Information
The 'Cats trail Notre Dame, 0-1-0, in that all-time series, following a 2-0 Irish victory last year in South Bend, Ind. Sunday will mark the first time the Irish have played in Evanston.

Northwestern closes out its longest home stand since 2007 with a pair of matches against Illinois State and No. 7 Notre Dame this weekend. The two contests are the final non-conference games on Northwestern's 2010 regular season schedule.
Freshman Kate Allen scored her team-leading fourth goal of the season last Sunday as the 'Cats defeated Eastern Michigan, 3-1. Allen's goal was the game-winner - her third of the season. Defender Briana Westlund scored her first career goal on a penalty kick late in the second half to seal the win for NU.
The Missouri Valley Conference preseason favorite, Illinois State brings a 4-3-0 record into Friday night's match. The Redbirds and Wildcats have played three mutual opponents - both beat DePaul, while Illinois State lost to Eastern Michigan (Northwestern's last victory) and beat Kansas (who topped the Wildcats). Jessica Carlson and Anna Stinson have each scored twice for ISU this season, while the Redbirds have allowed eight goals.
Northwestern and Illinois State are tied, 2-2-0, in their all-time series. The Wildcats claimed a 1-0 victory in the last meeting, a 2008 game at Lakeside Field.
In addition to a pair of women's soccer games, Northwestern's Lakeside Field will also play host to a men's soccer tournament and two field hockey contests this weekend. Women's soccer fans should take note that because there is an admission charge for Northwestern men's soccer, fans arriving late to Friday's match or early on Sunday may be required to purchase a ticket. The ticket office will begin charging admission one hour before Friday's scheduled 7:30 p.m. men's start and will continue selling tickets until halftime of Sunday's men's game. That means fans arriving before approximately 3 p.m. CT on Sunday will be required to pay admission.
