Senior defender Megan Jamieson will be providing highlights from Northwestern's preseason camp and regular season in her blog, Jamieson's Journal. Below is entry No. 2 in the series.
Preseason is hot and cold. Mostly hot, but for a bone chilling (literally) eight minutes of the day many of the 'Cats seek out the comfort of the cold tub.
With two practices a day in 90 degree heat, it would be an understatement to say our muscles need a chance to refresh. Junior Kaylee Pohlmeyer said it best: "Cold-tubbing is the one time when I don't have to feel my legs and later prevents soreness."
Veteran players often go to the cold tub without hesitation, and some freshmen are brave enough to try it out as well.
"I'm a cold tub novice, but so far it has kept its promises because I haven't been sore," said freshman Catherine Franklin.
But not everyone seeks the comfort of the cold tub. Fifth-year Stacy Uchida reigns as team champ for shortest stint in the cold tub this year with a whopping 20 seconds! Stacy usually sticks to ice bags rather than go back in the tub. Whatever works to keep the soreness away!
For me, there is nothing like a cold tub after practice. Dunking your legs into a frigid pool of water seems like the furthest thing from soothing after practice, but then again, there is nothing quite like preseason soreness.
Go 'Cats!
