2010 NCAA Central Regional Results - Round One

COLUMBUS, Ind. -- It was a tough opening round for Northwestern at the 2010 NCAA Women's Golf Central Regional as the Wildcats conclude the opening 18 holes in 18th-place overall with a 33-over 321. Junior Kelsey Lindenschmidt (West Chester, Ohio/Ursuline Academy) has been the bright spot thus far for Northwestern, shooting a 3-over 75 in round one and currently sits tied for 15th in the individual rankings.

"We got off to a rough start, played decent through the middle of the round but then gave away too many shots on the finishing holes," said head coach Emily Fletcher. "We need the girls to shake off today and come out ready to play tomorrow. One positive to take away from today was Kelsey's strong play. I'm very proud of Kelsey's round today. She was 2 over after three holes and played outstanding from there in."

Lindenschmidt opened her first regional tournament by shooting a 3-over 39 through the opening nine holes, but was able to settle down to post an even-par 36 over the back nine. She was the only Wildcat to crack 80 on the day, however, as Lindenschmidt leads freshman Lauren Weaver (Scottsdale, Ariz./Cactus Shadows) by five strokes after her 8-over 80 in the opening round.

The sister duo of Alexandra and Rebecca Lederhausen (Hinsdale, Ill./Central) enter Friday's round two in third and fourth-place on the Northwestern scorecard after posting a 10-over 82 and a 12-over 84 respectively. Sophomore Kylie Fuller (Temecula, Calif./Chapparal) shot a 14-over 86 through the opening 18 holes to round out the Wildcat competitors.

With 36 holes remaining, Northwestern remains well within striking distance of a handful of teams, sitting two shots back of San Diego State (31-over 319) and are only three back of host Indiana (30-over 318). Beyond that there are five other teams within 10 shots of the Wildcats, including Georgia (24-over 312), Louisville (27-over 315) and Baylor (28-over 316).

Top-seeded Arizona State is holding serve thus far, posting a 9-over 297 through the opening 18 holes and leading second-ranked USC (11-over 299) by two shots. Purdue (15-over 303) sits third with both Oregon and Oklahoma State (17-over 305) tied for fourth just two shots back of the Boilermakers. New Mexico, Florida State, Mississippi, Kent State and Michigan State round out the top-10.

After teeing off in the afternoon session on Thursday, the Wildcats will be among the morning field on Friday, getting round two underway at 7 a.m. CT, remaining teamed with Notre Dame and Mississippi. Live scoring of Friday's second round is available at Golfstat.com.
