Box Score

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - A trio of Northwestern errors led to three unearned runs by Seton Hall as the Wildcats dropped their finale in the Big Ten/Big East Challenge 3-0 to the Pirates Sunday morning.

NU (2-5) got a solid pitching performance by Zach Morton, but was unable to cash in offensively. The sophomore right-hander worked the first six innings, scattering six hits while striking out three. He surrendered just two unearned runs in the first inning.

The Wildcats got runners to second base in each of the first two innings against Seton Hall starter Jon Prosinski, but Northwestern was unable to cash in.

NU got back-to-back hits from Quentin Williams and Chris Kontos to start the sixth inning, but were held at bay.

David Jensen relieved Morton to start the seventh inning and an error by the Wildcats put the leadoff batter on base. A sacrific fly by Nick Ammirati later on the frame would plate the Pirates' third run.

Northwestern got the tying run to the plate in the top of the ninth inning against reliever Matt Singer, but Seton Hall was able to work its way out of trouble to preserve the victory.

Chris Lashmet had two hits for the Wildcats, while Arby Fields drew a pair of walks.

NU returns to action next Friday as it competes in the Dairy Queen Classic in Minneapolis.
