EVANSTON, Ill. -- Third-ranked Northwestern wrapped up the dual meet portion of its 2009-10 schedule in dominating fashion, posted another 6-0 mark over the second day at the NU Duals, finishing the two-day event a perfect 12-0. The Wildcats finish the regular season with an impressive 45-4 record, making it the first time in program history the 'Cats have eclipsed the 40-win mark.

Northwestern continued the dominance it started in the opening day of the Duals after it posted a 6-0 mark while dropping just five bouts on Saturday. The Wildcats opened up Sunday morning with a perfect 27-0 rout of in-state rival Illinois, followed with a 23-4 victory over Chicago. The toughest match of the weekend then ensued as Northwestern breezed past Michigan State 22-5, thanks to a 9-0 mark by the foil squad.

The Wildcats closed out the tournament with a pair of 27-0 decisions over both Purdue and Midwest Conference rival Lawrence, defeating Indiana 25-2 in between thanks to a 9-0 effort from the epée squad.

All three weapons continued their impressive showings from the day before as the foil team finished 52-2 on the afternoon, posting a combined 106-2 mark over the two-day tournament. Sabre finished 50-4 on Sunday, finishing 102-6 for the tournament with epée closing out the NU Duals with a 100-8 mark after a 49-5 effort Sunday afternoon.

The 45 victories on the year adds to the program-single season win mark, surpassing the previous record of 36 wins by both the 2006-07 and 2007-08. Northwestern also closed out the 2009-10 campaign on a 17-match winning streak, dating to the Notre Dame Duals last weekend.

Head coach Laurie Schiller's third-ranked Wildcats now turn their sights toward the postseason as Northwestern gets set for the 2010 Midwest Conference Championships in South Bend, Ind., on March 6 and 7. Following the conference championships, Northwestern returns to Evanston one last time in 2010, hosting the NCAA Midwest Regional at the Sports and Aquatic Center on March 13 and 14.
