UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Freshman Dina Bazarbayeva (Houston, Texas) highlighted a productive day on the strips for the Wildcat fencers, capturing the silver medal in the women's epee at the 2010 Penn State Garrett Open. She was one of four Wildcats who posted top-10 finishes on the day.

Bazarbayeva was one of three Wildcat eppeists to place among the top-10, falling to Ohio State's Katarzyna Dabrowa in the gold medal bout. She was joined in the top-five by teammates Kate Cavanaugh (Milwaukee, Wis./Nicolet) and Kendrick Mooney (Arcadia, Calif./Arcadia) who finished fourth and fifth respectively.

Dayana Sarkisova (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Central) was the fourth Wildcat to post a top-10 finish on the day, placing sixth in the women's foil. Teammate Devynn Patterson (Seattle, Wash./Roosevelt) was the only other Northwestern foilist to finish among the top-20, checking in at 20th. Chloe Grainger (Decatur, Ga./Decatur) was the top Wildcat finisher in the women's sabre, posting a 13th-place showing.

Up next for Northwestern is a short drive up I-94 to Milwaukee, Wis., to compete in the Junior North American Cup on Nov. 19-22. The Wildcats then return to the strips at SPAC, hosting the USFA Illinois JO Qualifier on Saturday, Dec. 4.
