Senior defender Megan Jamieson will be providing written and video highlights from Northwestern's 2010 regular season in her blog, Jamieson's Journal. Below is entry No. 8 in the series.
It seems a little surreal that we are going into our final home games this weekend. If you were to ask me just a few weeks ago during our eight-game road stint about my feelings on this closing weekend, I probably would have joked, "We have home games this season?"
I know I have already said this about previous games, but our games this weekend against Penn State and Michigan State are undoubtedly the most significant of our season. The outcomes will determine where we are seeded in the conference tournament and whether or not we will have a share of the regular season championship.
The athletic department has been buzzing about the potential outcomes of this weekend but Tracey has kept us grounded. Before Iowa she asked us if any of us had climbed a ladder before. Most of us nodded -- Kendra enthusiastically replied, Yes! Tracey said, "Now how did you do that? One step at a time." Chelsea's prolific scoring performance at Iowa got us that one step closer, but there are 140 minutes of hockey to be played this weekend before we can worry about taking any more steps.
On Sunday it will be the last home game (regular season) for Sarah, Katie, Liv, Kendra, Marnie, Zoe, Stacy and I. I know I can speak for my classmates when I say it is hard to believe after four years this day has come. Our class has been a part of a huge change in our program, going from just four wins our freshman year to already notching three Big Ten wins this season -- more then all of our previous years combined. Grueling winters and springs now come down to this. It's been quite the ride already and there is no slowing us down now.
It's going to be a sunny and brisk weekend, so don't 'should yourself' (as Tracey would say) and miss out on coming to these games. It's going to be a great weekend.
Go Cats!
