Landfall Tradition Round One Tee Times

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern closes out the fall portion of its 2010-11 schedule with arguably its toughest event of the season, heading down to Wilmington, N.C., for the 2010 Landfall Tradition. Nearly all of the 18 teams competing are ranked among the Golfweek Sagarin top-50, including three top-10 programs.

The Wildcats, ranked 42nd in this week's ranking, are hoping to carry the momentum gained at the 2010 Lady Northern last week into this week's event. Behind a program-best performance from sophomore Lauren Weaver (Scottsdale, Ariz./Cactus Shadows) and a third-round surge in which each Wildcat finished the day no worse than 3-over par, NU roared to a second-place finish while Weaver captured the individual title.

Weaver will be back on the links for Northwestern this weekend as head coach Emily Fletcher will use the same lineup as last week's Lady Northern. Senior Rebecca Lederhausen (Hinsdale, Ill./Central), junior Alex Lederhausen (Hinsdale, Ill./Central), sophomore Anne Ormson (Granger, Ind./St. Joseph's) and freshman Devon Brown (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif./Cathedral Catholic) will round out the Wildcat scorecard in the 5-count-4 format.

Northwestern will return to the Landfall Tradition after missing the event in 2009. The Wildcats placed ninth in 2008, recording a 78-over 942, finishing six strokes ahead of 10th-place UNC Wilmington. Alex Lederhausen is the only Wildcat on this year's scorecard that competed in 2008, placing fourth among the Northwestern golfers with a 29-over 245.

But the Wildcats will face a stiff challenge, competing against 14 schools that are ranked among this week's top-50 by Golfweek, including seven in the top-20. UCLA (No. 4), Duke (No. 5) and Virginia (No. 8) all boast top-10 rankings with North Carolina (No. 13), Wake Forest (No. 16), Michigan State (No. 17) and Notre Dame (No. 19) not far behind. South Carolina (No. 22), Oklahoma State (No. 23), Texas (No. 29), Ohio State (No. 31), Florida State (No. 43), Texas Tech (No. 46) and UT-Chattanooga (No. 47) join the Wildcats among the top-50 schools competing.

The 54-hole tournament will be spread out among three days, different from the previous four events Northwestern has been a part of this season. The Wildcats will be teamed up with UT-Chattanooga and North Carolina State in the round one threesome and begin from the 10th tee beginning at 9:10 a.m. CT Friday morning. Live scoring of the Landfall Tradition is available at Golfstat.com.
