EVANSTON, Ill. -- After a pair of road tournaments to start off the 2010-11 season, the Northwestern women's golf team will get a healthy dose of home cooking, hosting two tournaments in as many weeks. First up for the Wildcats is the 2010 Windy City Collegiate Classic, held Monday, Oct. 4 through Tuesday, Oct. 5 at the Northmoor Country Club in Highland Park.

"We are extremely excited to host the Windy City for the third time and to welcome back some of the nation's best golfers to the North Shore," said head coach Emily Fletcher. "Our goal with this tournament is to make it one of the premiere women's golf tournaments in the country, and the teams that have competed in the past have had rave reviews about it. Our volunteers and fans are extremely excited to put on another top-notch event and we're hoping to make this year's Windy City the best yet."

The 2010 edition of the Windy City will be held at Northmoor Country Club, located at 820 Edgewood Road in Highland Park, just north of Lake-Cook Road. It will once again be a 54-hole, 5-count-4 tournament, with the opening two rounds scheduled for Monday, October 4 and the final 18 holes on Tuesday, October 5. Players will be grouped in threesomes with a staggered start from holes one and 10, beginning at 7:30 a.m. Monday morning. Round two is scheduled to begin at approximately noon Monday afternoon with Tuesday's final round getting underway at 8 a.m.

10 teams will converge on the North Shore to compete with the Wildcats, seven of which are making a return trip to the Windy City. Two-time reigning champion Purdue, ranked seventh in this week's Golfweek Sagarin rankings, returns to defend its title, but will face stiff competition from a field that boasts seven top-50 teams, including New Mexico (No. 20) and TCU (No. 26). Northwestern enters the tournament ranked 37th, with Texas Tech (No. 40), San Diego State (No. 42) and Iowa State (No. 49) placing among the top-50.

Northwestern has played tough in its own backyard, placing 10th in 2008 before tying for fourth last season. Sophomore Lauren Weaver (Scottsdale, Ariz./Cactus Shadows) and Alex Lederhausen (Hinsdale, Ill./Central) both notched top-20 finishes in 2009, placing ninth and 18th respectively, and will be on the course for the Wildcats next week.

Admission to the Windy City Collegiate Classic is free both days as fans are welcome to head to the course and cheer on the Wildcats in the first of a record-setting three home tournaments this season. Live scoring of the tournament is also available at Gofstat.com.
