Defending Champions Release Challenging 2009 Fall Ball Schedule

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Five-time defending national champion Northwestern has announced its challenging 2009 fall ball schedule. The Wildcats will go head-to-head with five 2009 NCAA tournament teams, including three of their tournament opponents from last year in North Carolina, Penn and Princeton.
"We're really excited to be back in Evanston and get back on the field this fall," said head coach Kelly Amonte Hiller. "We have a young team this year, and this fall schedule should provide a lot of opportunities and challenges. I'm excited to see how the players gel and play together."
The Wildcats will host a pair of fall games at Lakeside Field, facing Louisville at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 4, and Detroit-Mercy at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 8. Northwestern then heads south to South Bend, Ind., to meet up with Notre Dame in a 5 p.m. match-up on Wednesday, Oct. 14.
The 'Cats then head east for the always-challenging Princeton Tournament on Saturday, Oct. 17, playing five 30-minute running clock games. NU will meet up with North Carolina in a rematch of last year's championship game at 8:35 a.m., followed by a meeting with Syracuse at 9:45. The Wildcats will get their first look at American Lacrosse Conference newcomer Florida at 12:05, before closing out the day facing Princeton at 1:50 and Penn at 2:25.
Northwestern then heads up the road to Poly Prep High School in Brooklyn, N.Y., facing Cornell in the Rusty Red Charity Game at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 18. The fall schedule wraps up with the annual Alumni Game, being played at Lakeside Field on Saturday, Oct. 31, at 9:30 a.m.
