EVANSTON, Ill. -
Fans can get their first glimpse of the 2009 Northwestern men's soccer team Thursday as the Wildcats host UW-Parkside in an exhibtion match at Lakeside Field. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
Following the conclusion on the exhibition match, fans will have the chance to meet the team in a special postgame autograph session on the field.
Coming off a 15-5-3 season and a berth in the quarterfinal round of the NCAA tournament a year ago, NU is ranked No. 9 in the NSCAA preseason poll. The Wildcats welcome back six starters and 15 letterwinners from a year ago.
Among those returning to the field for Northwestern are a trio of All-Big Ten performers. Junior forward Matt Eliason, who led the team with 12 goals and 25 points, was a first-team all-conference pick, while senior defender Mark Blades and senior goalkeeper Misha Rosenthal were both second-team selections. Blades was a third-team NSCAA All-American last season and has been named to the 2009 Hermann Trophy Watch List. The award honors the nation's top collegiate soccer player.
UW-Parkside, which competes at the NCAA Division II level, posted an 8-6-3 mark in 2008.
