EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern heads to West Lafayette, Ind., this weekend to compete in the 2009 Big Ten Championships Friday, April 24, through Sunday, April 26. The Wildcats, who finished seventh at the Championships last season, look to build on their recent tournament success, including a season-best fourth-place finish at last weekend's Lady Buckeye Invitational.

11th-ranked Purdue, the reigning conference champions, will serve as the host institution for this year's Championships, which will be held at the Kampen Course, a par-72, 6,333 yard course in West Lafayette. The 72-hole tournament gets underway Friday morning at 7 a.m. Central, with both the first and second round being held. Round three begins a 8 a.m. Central on Saturday, with the final 18 holes starting at 8 a.m. Sunday morning.

Northwestern finished seventh at last year's Big Ten Championships in University Park, Pa., shooting a 74-over 1226 (306-307-303-310). Sophomore Kelsey Lindenschmidt (West Chester, Ohio/Ursuline Academy) was the top NU finisher, placing in a tie for 28th with a 20-over 308 (75-76-78-79), one shot better than senior Jennifer Hong's (Windermere, Fla./The First Academy) 21-over 309 (78-76-77-78).

The Wildcats have made steady improvements during head coach Emily Fletcher's inaugural season, especially during the spring portion of the schedule. NU shot a season-low 890 at the Mountain View Collegiate on March 28-29, and followed that up with a season-best fourth-place finish at the Lady Buckeye Invitational last weekend, placing second out of nine Big Ten teams that competed. On the year, Northwestern has finished in the top 10 in all but one of its 10 tournaments.

Sophomore Rebecca Lederhausen (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) has come on strong in her first four tournaments of the year, leading the Wildcats with a 77.67 scoring average and two top-20 finishes, including tying for eighth at the Lady Buckeye. Lindenschmidt is second in scoring average at 77.77, while Hong is right behind at 77.85 and leads the squad with four top-20 finishes. Sophomore Innapha Tantanavivat (Bangkok, Thailand/David Leadbetter Academy) rounds out the balanced Wildcat attack with a 77.90 scoring average.
