EVANSTON, Ill. - Chris Kontos had two hits and was on base three times, but a six-run fourth inning helped propel Iowa to a 10-1 win over Northwestern at Rocky Miller Park Saturday afternoon.

The teams' weekend series is now even after the Wildcats posted a 4-3 win Friday.

The Hawkeyes (12-22, 3-8 Big Ten) collected four first-inning hits in scoring twice against NU starting pitcher Zach Morton. Nick Brown, who was the starting pitcher for Iowa on Friday, tripled home a run and Ryan Durant added a sacrifice fly.

Northwestern (10-24, 2-8) cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the third. Jim Grieco started the inning with a single before stealing second. Another single by Kontos gave the 'Cats runners at the corners with no one out before Trevor Stevens contributed a one-out sac fly that got the hosts on the board.

However, that would be the only scoring that NU would manage off Iowa starter Jared Hippen who tossed seven strong innings, allowing just four hits.

The Hawkeyes broke the game open with six runs in the fourth inning as the Wildcats were forced to use four pitchers in the frame. Justin Toole, who had four hits in the contest, had a two-run double in the rally, but the Northwestern pitching staff aided the cause by hitting two batters and walking another with the bases loaded.

Iowa would tack on two final runs in the top of the sixth to account for the final margin.

Matt Havey pitched two innings of scoreless relief for the Wildcats, while Matt Gailey hurled one of his own.

The two teams are slated to wrap up their weekend series with a game set for 1 p.m. Sunday.
