RIO VERDE, Ariz. -- Northwestern dropped two spots on the final day of competition at the Duramed Collegiate Invitational, finishing eighth out of 20 schools with a 67-over 919. NU shot a 21-over 305 over the final 18 holes to finish with a 67-over 919, the lowest 54-hole total of the season for the 'Cats, as well as notch its sixth top-10 finish of the season.
Northwestern entered the day in a sixth-place tie with Eastern Michigan and was only five strokes back of second-place Toledo. Despite shooting the 305, one of the best rounds of the season, the Wildcats slipped to eighth, finishing one stroke back of both Wisconsin and Northern Arizona, who tied for sixth at 66-over 918, and three shots back of fifth-place Minnesota (64-over 916).
Sophomores Rebecca Lederhausen (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) and Kelsey Lindenschmidt (West Chester, Ohio/Ursuline Academy) sat tied atop the Wildcat scorecard, with both finishing in a tie for 18th-place overall with a 14-over 227 for the three-day tournament, a season-best for both girls. The duo finished four strokes ahead of fellow sophomore Innapha Tantanavivat (Bangkok, Thailand/David Leadbetter Academy), who shot a 6-over 77 over the final day to finish at 18-over 231. Senior Jennifer Hong (Windermere, Fla./The First Academy) shot a 27-over 240 while freshman Kylie Fuller (Temecula, Calif./Temecula) compiled a three-day score of 30-over 243, thanks to a team-best 3-over 74 over the final 18 holes.
Kansas took home the team title after leading wire-to-wire, finishing with a 31-over 883, 24 strokes better than second-place Arkansas-Little Rock's 55-over 907. Eastern Michigan (62-over 914) and Toledo (63-over 915) joined the Gophers to round out the top five. Kansas' Meghan Gockel edged out Arkansas-Little Rock's Sara Wikstrom on the first playoff hole to take home the individual crown after both girls finished with a 5-over 218.
Northwestern will get a couple weeks off before heading back to the desert to compete in the Mountain View Collegiate in Tucson, Ariz., March 28 and 29.
