EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern senior attacker Hannah Nielsen (Adelaide, Australia/Brighton Secondary) and senior midfielder Meredith Frank (Westwood, Mass./Westwood) each earned American Lacrosse Conference Player of the Week honors, being named the Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week respectively. Ohio State's Alayna Markwardt was named the conference's Rookie of the Week.
Nielsen continued her assault on both the Wildcat and NCAA record books this past weekend, recording six goals and adding 11 assists in the pair of victories over Hofstra and Rutgers. She became just the second 'Cat to amass 300 points for her career, and dished out eight assists against the Scarlet Knights - the second-best performance of her career. Nielsen is now only seven assists shy of surpassing fellow Australian Jen Adams as the NCAA's all-time assist leader.
Frank spearheaded a relentless Northwestern midfield attack against Hofstra and Rutgers, allowing the two teams to a combined seven goals on 21 shots, while holding the Scarlet Knights to just one goal. Frank leads the Wildcats in ground balls (15) and ranks second on the squad in caused turnovers (eight). She has also contributed offensively as well, notching a pair of goals against Rutgers to move into ninth-place on the all-time NU goals list with 129.
Frank, Nielsen and the rest of the Wildcats look to maintain their undefeated record in a highly-anticipated showdown with fourth-ranked Syracuse on Sunday, March 22. The game will be a rematch of last season's 16-8 Wildcat victory in the NCAA semifinals. Opening draw is set for 1 p.m. at Lakeside Field.
