EVANSTON, Ill. -
Northwestern associate head coach Andy Fleming has been named the new head men's soccer coach at Xavier. Fleming spent the last three years on the Wildcats' staff, helping them reach the NCAA tournament each season.
"Congratulations to Xavier on their choice of Andy Fleming to be their next head coach," Northwestern head coach Tim Lenahan said. "Andy's influence on our program has been very evident in our success over the last three years; three of the best seasons in Northwestern history. He is passionate, intelligent and really has a great rapport with the players. We are sorry to see him go but this is a great opportunity and I am sure he will have the Musketeers competing for an A-10 Championship in the near future. We wish Andy, his wife, Amy, and new son, Brady, all the best."
Fleming becomes the fourth straight Northwestern assistant coach to land a head coaching position, joining Erik Ronning (Colgate), Justin Serpone (Amherst) and Tom Carlin (Villanova). All told, Lenahan has helped start the careers of seven head coaches, as former protegees Jeff Haines (Richard Stockton), Dennis Bohn (Lafayette) and Fernando Barboto (Iona) round out the list.
A native of Braintree, Mass., Fleming has been honored by College Soccer News as one of the nation's top assistant coaches on seven occasions and was recently named the Great Lakes Region Assistant Coach of the Year.
