2009 Longstreth/NFHCA All-Region Teams
EVANSTON, Ill. -- Chelsea Armstrong (Perth, Australia/Penrhos), who led the Big Ten Conference during the regular season with 22 goals and 56 points, garnered first-team Longstreth/NFHCA All-West Region recognition on Thursday. Armstrong becomes the first Wildcat to be named to the first team since Candice Cooper in 2003 and 2004.
Armstrong spearheaded a dangerous Wildcat attack this season that scored 67 goals in 20 games. Her 22 goals rank in a tie for second all-time on NU's single-season scoring list while her 56 points are good for sole possession of second place. Armstrong scored four game-winning goals for the 'Cats, including two in overtime (vs. Boston University, vs. Maine).
Armstrong--a three-time Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week this season--notched two hat tricks on the year, including a four-goal outburst in a 5-2 victory over Central Michigan on Sept. 12.
Nationally, the Australia native ranked eighth in points per game (2.80) and tied for 11th in goals per game (1.10). She was also the Big Ten leader in shots during the regular season with 91.
The NFHCA's West Region includes teams from the Big Ten, MAC, Big East and Northern Pacific field hockey conferences. The complete list of 2009 Longstreth/NFHCA All-West Region honorees is available in PDF format at the top of the page.
