EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern head coach Emily Fletcher announced today the signing of Devon Brown (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif./Cathedral Catholic) to a National Letter of Intent.

Brown is the 25th ranked player in her 2010 class, according to Junior Golf Scoreboard, and 28th on the Golfweek rankings. She is coming off a strong summer in which she posted three seconds-place and a sixth-place finish in five AJGA events. Brown also advanced to the match play portion of the U.S. Girls Juniors this summer at Trump National.

"I am extremely excited that Devon will be joining the Wildcat ranks next fall and I anticipate that she will make an immediate impact on our program," Fletcher said. "I knew as soon as I saw Devon play that I wanted her to play for us so this signing marks the culmination of tons of time and effort. I couldn't be more thrilled!"

Brown continued her strong play throughout the fall and led her undefeated Cathedral Catholic squad to the Western League Championship. She was a 10-time medalist and posted 10 rounds of par or better in matches.

Brown has been selected to play for Team USA at the Aaron Baddeley International Junior Championship in Guangzhou, China, November 22-29. She is one of only two girls selected to represent the USA.

"Devon's experience and success on the national and international stage is impressive and gained a lot of attention from top golf schools in the country. It is significant to our program that Devon chose Northwestern", added Coach Fletcher. "Devon strongly believes in Northwestern and specifically, our golf program and where it is headed."

The Lady Wildcats got off to a solid start this year, closing out their fall season ranked 38th by Golfweek and 42nd by Golfstat, posting three fourth-place finishes with a 298.67 scoring average. Northwestern returns to the links at the Lady Puerto Rico in Rio Grande, P.R., on Feb. 7-9, 2010.
