EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern returns home this weekend for a pair of meets, hosting Wisconsin at 5 p.m. CT on Friday, Nov. 13, before Illinois-Chicago comes to the Norris Aquatic Center at 1 p.m. CT Saturday, Nov. 14. Both days are combined men's and women's meets.
The Wildcats are coming off a razor-thin defeat in West Lafayette last weekend, falling to Purdue by a tenth of a second in the final 400 free relay. It's tough to fault that effort, however, because Northwestern's team of Caitlin Masney (Hong Kong, China/Chinese International School), Emily Wong (Nepean, Ontario/St. Joseph's), Taylor Reynolds (St. Louis, Mo./Webster Groves) and Kassia Shishkoff (Raleigh, N.C./St. David's School) swam an NCAA `B' provisional qualifying time of 3:23.18, which currently ranks sixth-fastest in the nation according to collegeswimming.com. Purdue's relay ranks fifth in those standings.
In addition to the 400 free relay, the 200 free relay of Wong, Teisha Lightbourne (Nassau, Bahamas/Peddie School (N.J.)), Reynolds and Shishkoff are ranked eighth in the country with a 1:33.90 achieved in the first meet of the year versus Indiana.
Wong herself is ranked in the top-20 in the nation individually in both the 50 and 100 freestyle races, while breaststroke specialist Jenny Wilson (Bethesda, Md./Sidwell Friends School) is 22nd in the 200 breast at this early part of the season. Shishkoff also is in the top portion of the collegeswimming.com rankings in the 200 free and 200 IM.
The Wildcats are looking avenge one of their two losses from last season when they face the perennially ranked Badgers, who bested NU in a meeting of two ranked opponents in 2008. Northwestern also swam against UIC last year, sweeping a double-dual against both Illinois-Chicago and the University of Chicago.
Northwestern went 10-2 in dual meets a year ago, reaching double-digit wins for the first time under head coach Jimmy Tierney.
