EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern senior goalkeeper Misha Rosenthal (Miami, Fla./Gulliver Prep) has been named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week and to Top Drawer Soccer's National Team of the Week for his efforts in the Wildcats' 1-0 win Sunday over Ohio State.

The honor from the Big Ten is the fifth of Rosenthal's career. He is the second NU player to be honored by the conference this season as Matt Eliason was recognized as the Offensive Player of the Week Sept. 14.

Rosenthal made seven saves to earn his school-record 25th career shutout in Northwestern's victory over the 15th-ranked Buckeyes in the Wildcats' league opener. The effort came on the heels of Rosenthal missing the team's previous two matches due to injury and helped NU extend its unbeaten streak to seven in a row.

The win marked the fourth straight year that Northwestern (5-1-3, 1-0-0 Big Ten) has won its conference opener, all at the expense of Ohio State.

The Wildcats return to action at 4 p.m. Wednesday as they travel to DeKalb, Ill., to face Northern Illinois.
