Wowchuk Falls at All-American Championships

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — After winning her opening two matches Saturday in the prequalifying draw of the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships, NU freshman Brittany Wowchuk fell in straight sets to Kayla Duncan of Texas Christian.
Duncan was able to defeat Wowchuk, 6-1, 6-1, to advance to the qualifying bracket of the Championships. Main draw competition, where Northwestern junior Maria Mosolova owns the top overall singles seed, begins this week. Meanwhile, 40th-ranked Samantha Murray will soon begin play in the qualifying round with a first-round match against Liset Brito of Florida International. Murray is ranked as a 9-16 seed in her bracket.
