Wildcats Head to Las Vegas For Final Fall Tournament

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern closes out the fall portion of its 2009-10 schedule, heading to Boulder City, Nevada, to compete in the 2009 Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown. The three-day tournament, hosted by UNLV, gets underway Monday, Oct. 26.
Boulder Creek Golf Club will serve as the host venue for the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown, a par-72 course measuring 6,233 yards. The 54-hole tournament will be spread out over three days, with teams playing just 18 holes per day. Rounds one and two will begin at 9:30 a.m. CT on Monday and Tuesday, with the final round getting underway at 10 a.m. CT on Wednesday, Oct. 28.
Northwestern, who is ranked 36th in this week's Golfweek Sagarin rankings, will once again face a challenging field as 13 of the 17 teams competing are ranked among the top-50. Florida (No. 14), Louisville (No. 19) and Arizona (No. 22) all boast top-25 rankings, with UC Davis (No. 32), Washington (No. 33), Kent State (No. 34), TCU (No. 37) and Texas Tech (No. 39) joining the Wildcats in the top-40. Host UNLV (No. 41), Arkansas (No. 44), Missouri (No. 47), Idaho (No. 49), Minnesota (No. 65), Colorado State (No. 69), Colorado (No. 71) and BYU (No. 88) round out the challenging 17-team field.
The Wildcats' focus during the offseason was to get off to a strong start in the fall, and with four tournaments under their belts, head coach Emily Fletcher's squad has done just that. Northwestern has shot under 300 in nine of its first 12 rounds this year and is averaging 297.25 per round. The Wildcats have finished in the top-five in three of four events, notching fourth-place finishes at the Mary Fossum Invitational, Lady Northern Invitational and Windy City Collegiate Classic.
Individually, freshman Lauren Weaver (Scottsdale, Ariz./Cactus Shadows) has been brilliant in her collegiate debut, leading the squad with a 73.50 scoring average, five rounds under par and a pair of top-10 finishes. Sophomore Alexandra Lederhausen (Hinsdale, Ill./Central) has also come on strong for the 'Cats, ranking second in scoring average (74.33) with three top-20 finishes.
Juniors Kelsey Lindenschmidt (West Chester, Ohio/Ursuline Academy) and Innapha Tantanavivat (Bangkok, Thailand/David Leadbetter Academy) and sophomore Kylie Fuller (Temecula, Calif./Chapparal) round out the lineup for Northwestern, with all three playing big during the fall season. Fuller is third in scoring average at 75.42, with Tantanavivat averaging 76.08 and Lindenschmidt shooting a 77.33.
