Wildcats Remain Unbeaten, Sweeping Through Penn Invitational

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- Northwestern posted a perfect record at the Penn Invitational for the second straight year, going 5-0 on the day and kept its undefeated record intact, improving to 15-0 on the year.
The Wildcats opened the day with an 18-9 victory over North Carolina, thanks to a 9-0 mark by the epeeists. NU then squeaked out a 14-13 decision over Temple, mirroring last season's result, and followed up that performance with a 15-12 victory over the host Quakers. The `Cats finished up the day with a 17-10 win against Duke before breezing past Drew 23-4, capped off by a 9-0 mark by the foil team.
Both the epee and foil squads dominated the tournament for the Wildcats, as neither weapon lost a match. Both the eppe and foil teams posted 34-11 (.756) marks on the day as both squads also improved to 15-0 in dual meets on the year. Sabre went 19-26 (.422), and is 11-4 overall.
The Wildcats now prepare for the USFA North American Cup in Louisville, Ky., beginning Friday, Jan. 16 and running through Monday, Jan. 19. Northwestern then gets ready for the meat of its dual meet schedule, traveling to New York City to compete in the NYU Duals on Sunday, Jan. 25.
