Wildcats Finish Day Two in Milwaukee

ELM GROVE, Wis. -- In the second day of action at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic, the Wildcats went 3-4 in singles against tournament host Marquette and 2-1 in doubles against Wisconsin. Three NU players are undefeated in singles in the tournament.
Northwestern started the day off with singles against Marquette. Alexander Thams (Stockholm, Sweden/Enskilda Gymnasiet) won his second match of the tournament by defeating Marquette's Dusan Medan. Freshmen Eric Spector (Northbrook, IL/Glenbrook North)and Joshua Graves (Milwaukee, Wis./Nicolet), playing in the first tournament of their college careers, also capped the morning off with victories to remain undefeated.
Alex Sanborn (Houston, Texas/Kinkaid), Tobias Reitz (Reinbeck, Germany/Sachsenwaldschule Reinbeck), Philip Kafka (Dallas, Texas /Greenhill)) and Andrew McCarthy (Cincinnati, Ohio/Indian Hill) suffered losses and are all 1-1 in the tournament. McCarthy and Reitz both won the first set of their matches, but couldn't carry the momentum into the second.
Northwestern next faced Big Ten foe Wisconsin in doubles play. A day after sweeping seven matches against the Badgers in singles, the 'Cats won two of three doubles matches. The duo of Spector and Thams are now 2-0 after defeating Wisconsin's Peter Michalicka and Varun Chari, 9-7. The pair of Graves and Sanborn also won, but each had different partners in Friday's doubles against Ball State.
