Wildcats Open 2008-09 Season at Mary Fossum Invitational

EVANSTON, Ill -- Northwestern steps to the opening tee of the 2008-09 season at the Mary Fossum Invitational in East Lansing, Mich., this Saturday-through-Sunday, Sept. 20-21. This will be the first collegiate tournament for Wildcat Head Coach Emily Fletcher, who became just the second coach in the program's history last May.
Hosted by Michigan State, the tournament will be held at the Forest Akers West Golf Course, a par-72, 6,236 yard course. The 54-hole Invitational gets underway at 8:30 a.m. Saturday morning, with teams playing the first two rounds. The final 18-hole round gets underway at 8:30 a.m. Sunday.
The Wildcats will be led by senior Jennifer Hong (Windermere, Fla./The First Academy), who comes into the year ranked second on the all-time list in scoring average (76.59). Sophomores Kelsey Lindenschmidt (West Chester, Ohio/Ursuline Academy) and Rebecca Lederhausen (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) both return after impressive freshman campaigns for the `Cats, and junior Megan Trachok (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) will also compete for a spot on the scorecard.
NU also welcomes four new golfers to the squad, including sophomore Innahpa Tantanavivat (Bangkok, Thailand/David Leadbetter Academy) who transferred to Northwestern after competing for Georgia last season and competed for the Bulldogs in both the SEC Championships and NCAA Championships. Freshmen Kylie Fuller (Temecula, Calif./Chapparal), Caroline King (Pepper Pike, Ohio/Orange) and Alexandra Lederhausen (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) round out the roster for the Wildcats.
Northwestern will face a 10-team field, lead by the host Spartans, and will meet up with Big Ten opponents Iowa, Michigan and Minnesota as well. Eastern Michigan, Ferris State (Fletcher's alma mater), Kent State, Notre Dame, Toledo and Western Michigan round out the field.
