Eight Wildcats Named to U.S. Women's National Teams

EVANSTON, IL. -- The 2008-09 U.S. Women's Lacrosse National Teams will have a distinctive Northwestern feel, as eight Wildcats were named to the squads after three days of tryouts in Baltimore, Md. The players are eligible to be named to the final 18-woman roster which will represent the United States at the 2009 IFWLA World Cup in Prague, Czech Republic.
The roster includes three current Wildcats and five former NU standouts. Seniors Hilary Bowen (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton) and Meredith Frank (Westwood, Mass./Westwood) and junior Katrina Dowd (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown) are among the `Cat returners who will seek their fifth-straight national championship this coming spring. Former Wildcats Sarah Albrecht, Christy Finch, Kristen Kjellman, Aly Josephs and Lindsey Munday were also named to the national team, along with current assistant coach Acacia Walker. The eight selections are the most of any school, giving a distinct NU feel. A 10th Wildcat -- senior Hannah Nielsen (Adelaide, Australia/Brighton Secondary) -- will represent NU as a member of the Australian National Team.
The player pool will be divided into Elite and Developmental teams following US Lacrosse's Stars and Stripes weekend Oct. 10-13. All players are eligible to represent Team USA at the 2009 IFWLA World Cup in Prague, Czech Republic, with the final 18-player roster expected to be announced following the US Lacrosse Champions Challenge in January 2009.
