2008-09 Northwestern Women's Golf Schedule

EVANSTON, Ill. -- As the Wildcat women's golf team embarks on the new era of Northwestern golf, head coach Emily Fletcher's squad will be tested throughout the season with a challenging set of tournaments featuring some of the top teams in the nation. It will be a good blend of old and new, with Northwestern making a return appearance in four tournaments while getting a fresh look at five others.

After beginning the year at the Mary Fossum Invitational in East Lansing, Mich., the Wildcats will serve as the hosts of the Windy City Collegiate Championship Oct. 6-7 at the Evanston Country Club in Skokie. It will provide a great early season test for Northwestern as Arizona, East Carolina, Oklahoma, Purdue, TCU, Texas, UNC-Wilmington and UNLV each finished the 2007-08 season ranked in the Golfweek Top 50. Illinois, Iowa State, Michigan and Texas State round out the field.

The final three tournaments of the fall season find the `Cats competing at the Lady Northern in West Lafayette, Ind., and the Landfall Tradition in Wilmington, N.C., before looking to defend their team title at the Challenge at Wolfdancer in San Marcos, Texas.

Following a three-month hiatus, Northwestern begins the spring portion of its schedule in sunny Rio Grande, Puerto Rico Feb. 8-10, participating in the Lady Puerto Rico. That will be followed by a pair of tournaments in the Arizona desert, beginning with the Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational in Rio Verde March 6-8, then a return trip to the Mountain View Collegiate in Tucson March 28-29.

The Wildcats begin the stretch run toward the Big Ten Championships in Gainesville, Fla., competing in the Suntrust Lady Gator the first weekend in April before their final tune-up at the Lady Buckeye in Columbus, Ohio. NU will look to improve on its fourth-place finish at the Lady Buckeye in 2008.

The regular season concludes in West Lafayette, Ind., at the Big Ten Championships April 24-26. The `Cats finished in a tie for seventh-place in 2008, and hope to improve on that mark as they push to qualify for their first NCAA tournament since 2007.
