EVANSTON, Ill. -- Head coach Jimmy Tierney has added another member to Northwestern's incoming 2008-09 freshman class, announcing the signing of Meghan Cavanaugh (Anchorage, Alaska/East Anchorage) today.

Cavanaugh's signing brings the class total to 11 student-athletes, which ties the program record for the largest incoming class. The 2007-08 freshman class also signed 11 student-athletes to the team.

Cavanaugh is a six-time All-American, holds 16 Alaska state records and is a three-time Alaska High School Swimmer of the Year award winner.

"We are thrilled to add Meghan to the Wildcat swimming and diving family," said Tierney. "Our staff and athletes really enjoyed Meghan on her trip to our campus and have no doubt she will fit in well with our team. She is a very talented freestyler and butterflyer who will contribute right away for us, especially in the 200 free and 100 fly. Meghan will help fill the void left by our 2 star graduating senior swimmers, Andrea Hupman and Katie Braun."
