EVANSTON, Ill. -- Junior Hannah Nielsen (Adelaide, Australia/Brighton Secondary) has been named the American Lacrosse Conference Co-Player of the Week by league officials for the week of April 15. She shares the honor with Vanderbilt goalkeeper Brooke Shinaberry.
Nielsen recorded 11 points (six goals, five assists) in helping top-ranked Northwestern defeat a pair of ranked opponents last week at Lakeside Field. She registered three goals and three assists as the Wildcats defeated 17th-ranked Johns Hopkins 14-12 to improve to 4-0 in ALC play and clinch the regular season conference championship. She followed that up with three goals and a pair of assists as NU routed 11th-ranked North Carolina 16-3 to improve to 15-0 on the season.
A Tewaaraton Trophy finalist in 2007 and nominee this year, Nielsen leads the Wildcats in points (73) and assists (40) and ranks third on the team in goals (33). She moved into fifth on the all-time points list against the Tar Heels, as she now has 215 for her career. The junior is also second on the Northwestern career assists list at 118, just ten behind current assistant coach Lindsey Munday for first all-time. She has also recorded at least one point in 37-straight games.
Nielsen was also named the ALC Player of the Week on March 10 and joins teammate Christy Finch (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) as a two-time recipient of the award. Junior Hilary Bowen (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton) also captured Player of the Week honors on March 18.
Northwestern closes out the regular season with a showdown with fifth-ranked Penn (12-1) at 1 p.m. Sunday, April 27, at Franklin Field in Philadelphia. The Wildcats then host the 2008 ALC Championships at Lakeside Field May 2-4.
