Kelly Amonte Hiller Named US Lacrosse Coach of the Week

BALTIMORE, Md. -- Seventh-year head coach Kelly Amonte Hiller has been named the US Lacrosse Women's Coach of the Week for the week ending March 30. Maryland head coach Dave Cottle earned the Men's Coach of the Week, and both will be recognized on CSTV's lacrosse broadcasts on April 8 and 12.
Amonte Hiller and the Wildcats knocked off three Top 20 teams during the week. After beating No. 5 Syracuse 19-7 on Monday in a top-five showdown in the Carrier Dome, Northwestern came back to beat No. 8 Georgetown (7-6) and No. 17 Vanderbilt (14-8). Northwestern is a perfect 10-0 this season and has now won 31 consecutive games dating to last season. The win against Vanderbilt also marked Amonte Hiller's 100th career victory. She is Northwestern's all-time leader in wins and winning percentage (.813), and has led the Wildcats to a 72-2 record and three-straight national championships since the beginning of the 2005 season.
Cottle led the Terps to an upset over a top-five ranked team for the second week in a row. On Saturday, Maryland knocked off previously unbeaten and top-ranked Virginia 13-7 at Byrd Stadium. Maryland has won five of its last six to improve to 7-2 for the season entering Friday's game against No. 9 Navy.
Amonte Hiller joins senior Christy Finch (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) and sophomore Maggie Bremer (Upper Arlington, Ohio/Upper Arlington) in capturing weekly honors. Finch was named the American Lacrosse Conference Player of the Week, while Bremer earned WomensLax.com Co-Player of the Week honors. Northwestern prepares for a showdown with seventh-ranked Duke (7-3) Sunday, April 6 in Durham, N.C. Opening draw is scheduled for 12 p.m.
