Four Wildcats Named Warrior Tewaaraton Trophy Nominees

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Four Wildcats have been named as nominees for the 2008 Tewaaraton Trophy presented by Warrior. Senior Christy Finch (Hudson, Ohio, Hudson) and juniors Hannah Nielsen (Adelaide, Australia/Brighton Secondary), Hilary Bowen (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton) and Meredith Frank (Westwood, Mass./Westwood) were among the 18 players nominated for the sport's most prestigious award.
Finch, the 'Cats team captain, was named Inside Lacrosse Magazine and IWLCA Defender of the Year in 2007, and has only solidified that honor. She leads the nation in caused turnovers per game (3.54) and has twice been named American Lacrosse Conference Player of the Week. She has also anchored a Northwestern defense which has consistently shut down the leading scorer on the opposition.
Nielsen leads the Wildcats in points through 13 games this season, netting 27 goals and adding 35 assists. Her 62 points is 12th in the nation, and she ranks ninth in points per game at 4.77. A Tewaaraton Trophy finalist in 2007, Nielsen is fourth in the nation in assists and now sits second on NU's all-time assist list at 113.
Bowen is Northwestern's leading goal scorer with 49, and has also dished out 12 assists. Her 61 points puts her at 15th in the nation, and she ranks fifth nationally in goals per game at 3.77. Bowen has netted at least one goal in 31 consecutive games, the fourth-longest streak in the nation, and along with Nielsen has scored at least one point in 35 straight games .
Frank has come on strong after missing the first three games of the season with an injury. The first-team All-American has 19 goals and six assists on the year, and currently sits 11th on Northwestern's all-time points (156) and goals list (112).
Former Wildcat Kristen Kjellman is a two-time Tewaaraton Trophy winner in 2006 and 2007. The winner will be announced at the 2008 Warrior Tewaaraton Trophy Awards Ceremony on Thursday, May 29, in Washington, D.C.
