Finch Captures Second ALC Player of the Week Honor

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Senior defender Christy Finch (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) was named the American Lacrosse Conference Player of the Week by league officials for the week of April 7. It is the second time Finch has won the award, picking up honors for the week of March 31 as well.
Finch, the NU team captain, continued to anchor the Wildcat defense as Northwestern defeated eighth-ranked Notre Dame and conference rival Penn State. The nation's leader in caused turnovers at 3.54, Finch caused 12 turnovers in the pair of victories, including a career-high eight in the 13-12 win over the Nittany Lions. She also scooped up five ground balls and won four draw controls in helping the 'Cats remain undefeated and improve to 3-0 in ALC play.
Inside Lacrosse Magazine and IWLCA Defender of the Year in 2007, Finch was named a pre-season first-team All-American and is on the Tewaaraton Trophy watch list. She joins juniors Hannah Nielsen (Adelaide, Australia/Brighton Secondary) and Hilary Bowen (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton) as the trio of Wildcats who have garnered ALC Player of the Week honors.
Finch and the rest of the `Cats close out the home portion of the 2008 regular season with a pair of big home games against ranked opponents. NU hosts conference opponent and 17th-ranked Johns Hopkins (6-7, 0-1 ALC) at 7:05 p.m. Friday, April 18, in a game televised live by CBS College Sports. She will then be one of four Wildcats honored on Senior Day when Northwestern hosts 11th-ranked North Carolina (10-4) at 1 p.m. Sunday, April 20.
