Emily Wong Named Big Ten Swimmer of the Week

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Two meets into the season, No. 20 Northwestern already has earned its second Big Ten Swimmer of the Week honor. Junior Emily Wong (Nepean, Ontario/St. Joseph's) picked up the award today (Nov. 11) following her performance in NU's win over Purdue on Friday, Nov. 7.
Wong dominated the sprint freestyle events, clocking in at 23.67 (50 free), 51.67 (100 free) and 1:51.48 (200 free) to win all three races. The junior also helped Northwestern's 200 free relay squad to a winning time of 1:34.59. Wong's conference honor is the first of her career.
After Northwestern's season-opening meet at No. 8 Indiana on Oct. 24, junior Kassia Shishkoff (Raleigh, N.C./St. David's School) earned the Wildcats' first Swimmer of the Week award for the year.
Northwestern returns to action with two meets this week, beginning at 5 p.m. CT Thursday, Nov. 13, at Wisconsin before returning home to entertain both Illinois-Chicago and the University of Chicago at 1 p.m. CT Saturday, Nov. 15, at the Norris Aquatics Center.
