EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern returns to the site of its last team championship, traveling to San Marcos, Texas, to compete in the second-annual Challenge at Wolfdancer Sunday, Nov. 2, through Monday, Nov. 3. The Wildcats took home the team title at the Challenge last year, shooting a 47-over 901 to defeat second-place Iowa State by five strokes.
In order to repeat, the Wildcats will have to hold off a challenging 16-team field, as both Colorado (No. 32) and Baylor (No. 50) are ranked in the Golfweek Sagarin rating top-50. NU will also go head-to-head with Big Ten Conference opponents Illinois, Iowa and Michigan. The remainder of the field consists of the College of Charleston, Idaho, Iowa State, Kansas State, McNeese State, Missouri State, Nebraska, SMU, Texas State and Texas Tech.
Hosted by Texas State, the Challenge will be played at the Wolfdancer Golf Club, a par-72, 7,205 yard course located just east of Austin, Texas. It will be a 54-hole tournament, with the first two rounds getting underway at 8 a.m. Sunday. The final 18 holes will tee-off at 8 a.m. Monday morning.
This is the final event of the fall season for Northwestern, whose scorecard should consist of the same five golfers as the previous four. Senior Jennifer Hong (Windermere, Fla./The First Academy) placed 11th at last year's challenge with a 13-over 229, while sophomore Kelsey Lindemschmidt (West Chester, Ohio/Ursuline Academy) finished in a tie for 16th at 17-over 233. Sophomore Innapha Tantanavivat (Bangkok, Thailand/David Leadbetter Academy) and freshmen Kylie Fuller (Temecula, Calif./Chapparal) and Alexandra Lederhausen (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) will also compete for the Wildcats.
