EVANSTON, Ill. -- Junior Kassia Shishkoff (Raleigh, N.C./St. David's School) has been named the Big Ten Swimmer of the Week following her performance in No. 22 Northwestern's meet at No. 8 Indiana on Friday, Oct. 24.
Shishkoff had a hand in four of the Wildcats' six event wins on the day. She recorded NCAA `B' provisional qualification times in the 200- and 500-yard freestyles, touching the wall at 1:48.15 and 4:48.95, respectively. The junior's winning time in the 400 individual medley was less than four seconds off NCAA consideration, posting a time of 4:21.02. Shishkoff also anchored the Wildcats' 400 freestyle relay in a winning time of 3:26.51.
Shishkoff's performance in the first meet of the year was made even more impressive given the fact that the NCAA dramatically lowered it's qualification times following the record-breaking speed of the field at the 2008 NCAA Championships.
The conference award is the second of Shishkoff's career. She previously won the award as a freshman in January of 2007, a week when she also garnered national swimmer of the week recognition from Swimming World Magazine and CollegeSwimming.com.
