Northwestern Races Against In-State Foes at Illini Open

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern traveled downstate to Champaign, Ill., Friday to compete in the Illini Open on the campus of Illinois. Five Wildcats participated in the three-team 5K event, gaining valuable experience while Northwestern prepares for the Big Ten Championships at Michigan on Sunday, Nov. 2. Junior Paulina Garcia (Streamwood, Ill./Streamwood) led all 'Cats in the Open, finishing 13th overall in 19:48.
Right behind Garcia in 14th was senior Kate Cline (Brecksville, Ohio/Broadview Heights) in 20:05. Madeline Rozwat (Hillsborough, Calif./Crystal Springs Uplands) was third among Wildcats in 20:44 while freshman Gaby Ruiz-Funes (Winnetka, Ill./New Trier) posted a personal-best 21:04 for the day.
Sophomore Annie Reihman (Richmond, Ind./Richmond) rounded out the finishers for Northwestern with a time of 21:24.
No. 10 Illinois bested Illinois State and Northwestern in the team count with a group score of 19. Amber Stack led all runners with an 18:44 time.

Head coach April Likhite will have her full squad in action next week in Ann Arbor to compete against the conference's best in the Big Ten Championships.
