Ewald Leads Wildcats at Big Ten Championships

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Freshman Sophie Ewald paced Northwestern at the 28th running of the Big Ten Championships Sunday in Ann Arbor, Mich., placing 60th overall in 22:52.2. NU finished 11th in the team competition with 333 points and now looks forward to the NCAA Regional meet in Stillwater, Okla., on Nov. 15.
Senior Marcellee Fullwood finished the 6K race just behind Ewald with a time of 23:03.9.
In addition to Ewald, head coach April Likhite saw five more members of her talented freshman class round out the Wildcats' results, headed by Hallie Busta (23:13.3) and Rachel Kaminski (23:42.5).
Rose Plomin crossed the line for NU in 73rd overall (23:54.5) while Abby Tracy (23:55.8) and Rachel Edwards (24:08.1) also did well at their first conference championships.
Senior Carly Brown finished in 24:40.4 and junior Paulina Garcia recorded a time of 24:46.6.
Minnesota, ranked seventh nationally, took home the team title with 63 points while Michigan State's Nicole Bush captured the individual crown in 20:15.8.
