EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern ran into an inspired 19th-ranked Ohio State squad and lost a 6-0 decision to the Buckeyes on Friday. The contest marked Senior Day for three members of Ohio State's team as well as the final game being played at North Turf Field before OSU switches to a new complex next fall. Senior netminder Emily Kyle (San Francisco, Calif./San Francisco University H.S.) made seven saves in the loss for NU.

Ohio State improves to 12-6 overall and an even 3-3 in the Big Ten in 2008. Northwestern moves to 6-11 and 0-5 in the league.

Six Wildcats registered shots on goal, with junior Elizabeth Dobbs (Wellesley, Mass./St. Ignatius (San Francisco)) recording two shots, but could not solve Buckeye goalie Allie Tunitis, who made five saves. It was OSU's ninth shutout in 2008.

In the first half, Ohio State managed to get on the board in the 13th minute on a shot by sophomore Jena Cacciatore. She was able to find the lower right corner of the cage to tally her seventh goal of 2008. Seven minutes later, the Buckeyes earned a penalty stroke that senior Linda Haussener converted for her Big Ten-leading 16th goal of the year. Haussener recently became the seventh player in Buckeye history to reach 100 career points.

Five minutes after the break, Haussener blasted in another shot from the top of the circle to give the Buckeyes a 3-0 cushion. Junior Melissa Palm scored on a rebound in the 58th minute before Cacciatore and Haussener scored their second and third goals of the game, respectively, to lift Ohio State to its fourth straight win. Haussener now has 41 points on the season.

NU now travels to Kentucky for a match-up with No. 11 Louisville at noon on Sunday before returning to Evanston for its final regular season home game next Saturday against Indiana, a game that will be broadcast on the Big Ten Network.
