EVANSTON, Ill. -- Junior Alex Quinn opened the scoring for Northwestern in the first half en route to a 3-0 shutout victory over the Chicago Field Hockey Club at Lakeside Field on Saturday.

In the second half, the `Cats added two more scores to the board for the three-goal win. Junior Emily Kyle played the entire game in net for NU recording eight saves as the defense thwarted all of CFHC's scoring opportunities.

"It was good to see the whole team back in action and playing good possession hockey," coach Kelly McCollum said. "We played on a high level on both sides of the field and were very persistent in denying them opportunities and persistent in getting the ball in the circle for all 70 minutes of the game."

In the second half, Annie Bosslet provided a spark for the `Cats off the bench with a goal and helping to provide numerous scoring opportunities. Following Bosslet's goal, Courtney Plaster-Strange entered the game and added one of her own and nearly missed on another chance.

"We have a few new forwards out there now so there's new excitement and energy helping us out," Quinn said. "The rest of us have been playing together for two years now and are really starting to connect with each other and receive a lot of support form the backfield."

Next Saturday, NU will once again take on CFHC at Lakeside Field in its second and final preseasonscrimmage before the regular season starts against Central Michigan on Aug. 25.
