Exceptional Performances Highlight Northwestern Offseason

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Several Northwestern student-athletes and alumni have turned in outstanding performances during the collegiate offseason in USA Swimming meets, and the Wildcats also have named their captains for the 2007-08 season.
Rising senior Andrea Hupman (Lawrenceville, Ga./Brookwood) along with freshmen Emily Wong (Nepean, Ontario/St. Joseph's) and Kassia Shishkoff (Raleigh, N.C./St. David's School) competed at the Eric Namesnik Grand Prix in Ann Arbor, Mich., from May 17-20. Sprinters Hupman and Wong had great showings, with Hupman winning and Wong taking third in the 100 free.
Hupman was second in the 200 free and 10th in the 50 free. Wong also scored with a fifth-place effort in the 50 free and 12th-place showing in the 200 free.

Also, 2004 graduate Erica Rose won her sixth-overall national open water championship by capturing the 25K race at the 2007 USA Swimming Open Water National Championships May 21 in Fort Myers, Fla. Rose swam a 6:12.51 to win the title. She also was the 2005 national champion in the event, and finished fourth in the event at the 2006 FINA Open Water World Championships.

With the offseason bringing stellar accomplishments for the 'Cats, the program already is looking toward next year. Head coach Jimmy Tierney has announced that seniors Katie Braun (Edina, Minn./Edina), Hupman, Carrera Harris (Shafter, Calif./Shafter) and Beth Campbell (Burr Ridge, Ill./Fenwick) have been named captains for the 2007-08 campaign.
