National Champs to Visit White House Monday, June 18

EVANSTON, Ill. -- The three-time national champion Northwestern women's lacrosse team will be among 28 championship teams that will be honored at a special White House ceremony on Monday, June 18. President George W. Bush will be in attendance to welcome the Wildcats to the annual NCAA Champions Day at the White House in Washington, D.C.

The Wildcats will arrive Monday morning and will tour several of the historic White House rooms. President Bush will then join the teams on the State Floor and pose for photos with each team. At the conclusion of the photo session each team will be escorted to its seats on the White House's South Lawn. The captains from each squad will be seated on stage during the President's remarks.

After the ceremony, the president will pose with all the captains from each team, at which point the teams will present him with a gift. This year the Wildcats will present President Bush with an official Northwestern national champion letterman's jacket.

The Wildcats recently capped off another historic season with a 21-1 record, culminating with their third-straight national title with a 15-13 win over Virginia on May 27 in Philadelphia. They are only the second team in the history of Division I women's lacrosse to win three consecutive titles.
