EVANSTON, Ill. -- The two-time defending national champion and No. 1 ranked Northwestern Wildcats (17-1) were tabbed as the top seed in this year's 2007 Division I NCAA Women's Lacrosse Championship. NU will face Holy Cross (13-5) in the first round at 1 p.m. CT Sunday, May 13 at the Lakeside Field in Evanston.

Ticket prices are $7 for adults and $5 for college students (with I.D.), seniors and children under 18.

The winner of Sunday's game will move on to play the winner of Syracuse and eighth-seed Vanderbilt on Saturday, May 19.

This is Northwestern's fourth-straight year playing in the NCAA Championship. This year the Wildcats received the ALC's automatic bid by capturing the inaugural ALC Tournament title this past weekend in Baltimore. Overall, this is the Wildcats' ninth NCAA bid, receiving five during the first era of lacrosse, from 1982-92. The 'Cats are 9-1 in the championship under head coach Kelly Amonte Hiller.

Northwestern has won 17-straight games since its 9-8 double-overtime loss in the season opener at North Carolina. Since then the Wildcats simply tore through the rest of their regular season schedule and carried that momentum right through the ALC Tournament. The explosive Wildcats lead the NCAA ranks in goals scored (16.7) and fewest goals allowed (5.7) and feature five players with at least 39 goals.

Holy Cross finished the season with a 13-5 overall record. They earned an automatic berth to the NCAA Championship by winning the Patriot League Championship for the second-straight year. This will be the first-ever meeting between the two schools.

Both first round and quarterfinal matches will take place at the host institution of the higher seeded team May 13 & 19. The remaining four teams will square off in the finals May 25 & 27 at Franklin Field in Philadelphia.
