CARMEL, Ind. -- Northwestern moved up one spot in the team standings and finished sixth at the Indiana Invitational, which was held at the Crooked Stick Golf Club just outside Indianapolis. The Wildcats closed with a 38-over 614 (311-303) and placed nine strokes back of Michigan, which shot a Tuesday-best 7-over 295 to win the event.
Senior Heather Scholten (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) fired a 2-over 74 to lead the Wildcats on Tuesday and placed 16th overall with a 9-over 153 (79-74). (The event was trimmed from 54 to 36 holes due to cold weather on Monday.)
Liliana Alvarez (Durango, Mexico/American School of Durango), who was shooting for her third straight top-two finish, shot a 6-over 78 for the final round and finished 13th at 8-over (74-78=152).
Senior Alice Kim (Los Angeles, Calif./Brentwood) placed 34th with a 12-over 156 (80-76). Sophomore Jennifer Hong (Windermere, Fla./The First Academy), who was competing as an individual, also shot a 76 on Tuesday and placed 30th, although her scores did not count toward NU's team score.
Juniors Katie Trachok (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) and Brittany Johnston (Akron, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) finished 46th and 65th, respectively. Trachok was 14-over (78-80=158) while Johnston bounced back from a tough Monday and was 18-over (87-75=162).
Illinois' Seul Ki Park won the individual race with an even-par 144.
Northwestern will play one more tournament, the Lady Buckeye Spring Invitational on April 21-22, before competing in the Big Ten Championships later this month.
