EVANSTON, Ill. -- By virtue of two impressive wins last week over UMass and Boston University, the Northwestern Wildcats (5-1) have reclaimed the top spot in this week's InsideLacrosse.com Top 20 Poll, released Monday.
Since its one-point, double-overtime setback at North Carolina back on Feb. 17, the Wildcats have played like a team reborn. They have won five-straight games -- three against ranked teams -- and have outscored their opponents 86-24 over that stretch, an average score of 17.2 to 4.8.
Last week Northwestern picked up wins against UMass (18-4) in the inaugural "Friends of Jaclyn" College Lacrosse Challenge in Yorktown, N.Y., before posting a 17-4 win Sunday afternoon at Boston University.
The Wildcats return home this weekend with two games, beginning at 4 p.m. Friday against No. 8 Syracuse. They then take on No. 20 Connecticut at Noon on Sunday.
The Inside Lacrosse Women's Division-I Media Poll comes out each Monday during the spring and is voted on by various members of the media.
