EVANSTON, Ill. -- Five Wildcats will represent Northwestern at the 2007 NCAA Championships, earning 11 swims in individual events while also placing the NU 400 free relay and 800 free relay in the field.
Junior Andrea Hupman (Lawrenceville, Ga./Brookwood), junior Katie Braun (Edina, Minn./Edina), freshman Jenn Kocsis (Omaha, Neb./Marian), freshman Emily Wong (Nepean, Ontario/St. Joseph's) and freshman Kassia Shishkoff (Raleigh, N.C./St. David's School) comprise the Northwestern contingent.
Most exciting for the Wildcats entering the March 8-10 meet in Minneapolis, Minn., are their two relays. Holding the 12th seed is the school-record-holding 800 free relay of Hupman, Wong, Kocsis and Shishkoff that finished second at the Big Ten Championships. The 400 free relay of Hupman, Wong, Braun and Shishkoff have the 17th seed in that event.
Individually, Hupman and Wong both will swim the 50, 100 and 200 freestyle races. Hupman, a two-time All-American in the 100 free, is the 18th seed in that event, while holding the 24th seed in the 200 free and the 41st seed in the 50 free. Wong is seeded 36th in the 100, 57th in the 50 and 70th in the 200.
Shishkoff also qualified for three events in her inaugural NCAA meet, owning the 28th seed in the 500 free, the 29th in the 1,650 free and the 38th in the 400 IM.
Kocsis will swim both the 1,650 free (43rd seed) and the 500 free (63rd seed) for Northwestern.
