Wildcats Travel To England To Begin 2007 Spring Season

EVANSTON, Ill. -- The Wildcats travel to England on Friday, March 16 to begin the 2007 spring competition schedule. Northwestern will enjoy several cities and historic landmarks during the week-long excursion while also competing in three games. Northwestern is set to battle the Clifton Ladies, Exmouth Ladies and Old Loughtonians, all local teams that are members of the English National Hockey League. Throughout the trip, NUsports.com will post journal entries from various student-athletes as well as photos from the journey.
"Everyone is excited for the opportunity to travel and compete internationally," head coach Kelly McCollum said. "The challenging schedule of competition will benefit our entire squad as we prepare for the 2007 season. Just as important, we are looking forward to exploring a different country and experiencing a new culture as a group. This trip will strengthen our bond as a team."
After leaving Chicago on March 16th, the Wildcats arrive in London on the 17th and immediately begin touring. The first stop is Windsor and Windsor Castle before heading to Bristol for the night. Following a tour of Bristol on the 18th, the Wildcats battle the Clifton Ladies before heading to Torquay, where they will spend the next three days. While in Torquay, the Wildcats will visit several towns, including Exeter and Exmouth. The second game of the trip is scheduled for Tuesday, March 20, against the Exmouth Ladies.
After spending the night in Torquay, the team will head to London, where it will spend the remainder of the trip. They will spend two days taking in the sights and local color of the historic city. Visits to Stonehenge, Buckingham Palace, the House of Parliament, Big Ben and St. Paul's Cathedral are on the itinerary. The Wildcats will play their final game in England on Friday, March 23, when the battle the Old Loughtonians.
The Wildcats are scheduled to return on Sunday, March 25.
