EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern senior David Roth (St. Louis, Mo./Chaminade) capped off his tremendous men's soccer career with the Wildcats by being named a second-team All-America selection of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). He is the first player in the history of the program to earn All-America honors.

The midfielder earned a similar second-team honor from College Soccer News.

Roth led the Wildcats with six goals and 19 points while finishing second on the team with seven assists this season. He finished his career as the school's all-time leader with 32 assists, while ranking third with 70 total points.

In a 4-0 victory at then-No. 19 and eventual national runner-up Ohio State Sept. 23, Roth tied his own NU single-game record with three assists. He had a two-goal game in a 3-1 win over Wisconsin in the Big Ten tournament, helping him earn all-tournament team honors.

Roth was a unanimous selection to the All-Big Ten team, marking the second consecutive season that he was a first-team pick. He was also named to the second team as a sophomore.

In addition to Roth, who was first-team honoree, three other Wildcats also earned All-Great Lakes Region recognition from the NSCAA.

Sophomore defender Mark Blades (Lakewood, Ohio/St. Ignatius) was named to the second team. Also a second-team selection to the All-Big Ten team, Blades helped anchor a Northwestern defense that set a school record with nine shutouts during the 2007 campaign. He also chipped in on the offensive end by contributing three goals and two assists.

Sophomore Carl Pett (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) and freshman Piero Bellizzi (Rye, N.Y./Rye) were third-team picks.

A versatile midfielder, Pett was named to the All-Big Ten first team and ranked third on the team with four goals and fourth with 10 points. He was named Soccer America's National Player of the Week after posting two goals and an assist in the Ohio State win.

Bellizzi was a second-team All-Big Ten recipient and was the conference's Freshman of the Year. He led the Wildcats with eight assists and was third with four goals. Like Pett, his finest performance came in the victory over the Buckeyes where he also tallied two goals to go along with an assist.
